Why am I passionate about this?

I’ve been fascinated since childhood about what makes people tick and why they do what they do. Instead of leveraging that keen passion, I spent 18 years engaged in forms of corporate marketing work that often felt wrong for me, with people I found it difficult to connect with, pursuing outcomes that didn’t feel contributive in the world. Finally, after age 40, I found a new path as a therapist and later, as a career and leadership coach and educator for 16+ years. As a writer of two non-fiction books, numerous blogs, and hosting my own podcast, I’m grateful to be able to help others pursue what matters deeply to them.

The books I picked & why

Book cover of Man’s Search for Meaning

Kathy Caprino Why did I love this book?

Reading this book was truly a life-changing experience for me.

It catapulted me forward in my understanding of how important it is to find and pursue true meaning in our lives, and how in fact, my own career was missing that very meaning and purpose that I so deeply longed for.

It helped me pursue becoming a psychotherapist and coach, and also prompted me to incorporate key aspects of Dr. Frankl’s logotherapy approach into my own therapeutic and coaching work, which proved transformative for my clients as well.

Further, in reading about Dr. Frankl’s horrific trauma during the holocaust and in the concentration camps, and reading how much he endured and how he helped others through his trauma, it gave me great inspiration to see what is possible even through the deepest pain, and how those possibilities can positively impact others all around us.

By Viktor Frankl,

Why should I read it?

46 authors picked Man’s Search for Meaning as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

One of the outstanding classics to emerge from the Holocaust, Man's Search for Meaning is Viktor Frankl's story of his struggle for survival in Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps. Today, this remarkable tribute to hope offers us an avenue to finding greater meaning and purpose in our own lives.

Book cover of You Can Heal Your Life

Kathy Caprino Why did I love this book?

I found this amazing book at a time when I had just experienced a very emotionally difficult layoff from my VP corporate role and decided that “Enough is enough!” and it was time to transform my career and life.

I had been experiencing serious chronic illness in the form of debilitating infections of my trachea every four months for 2 years, and medical doctors just couldn’t find the root cause or cure. I began to explore alternative approaches to healing and found Louise’s book groundbreaking for me.

I later studied various forms of energy healing as well as psychotherapy, and pursued understanding how “the body says what the lips cannot.” I have a deeper understanding now of the ways in which our bodies share essential spiritual and emotional messages with us, that are often communicated through physical challenges and chronic ailments.

Book cover of Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives

Kathy Caprino Why did I love this book?

As one who has also continually, throughout my life, sought out new ways to understand our human lives and see a glimpse of what potentially occurs after we’ve left our bodies and left this planet, I’ve found that many hypotheses we hear or teachings we’re taught haven’t aligned with what I believe deep down.

But when I read this book, suddenly I found strong support and validation for my thoughts and beliefs (and for what I’ve personally experienced) in terms of what human life is about, what happens when we die, future and past lives, why we experience new lives, and the essential reasons why we choose these lives.

Every word spoke to me in a way other teachings and information have not, and the book helped me see a deeper meaning to each of our human experiences here on earth, and to look forward to future experiences.

Book cover of The Energy of Money: A Spiritual Guide to Financial and Personal Fulfillment

Kathy Caprino Why did I love this book?

This book is a perfect and powerful guide for anyone struggling with money in their lives, or with bringing into physical reality what they dream to.

In my courses and training programs and in coaching thousands of folks around the world, I’ve taught a number of concepts from this book, including the author’s assertion: “People are happiest when demonstrating in physical reality what they know to be true about themselves, giving form to their Life Intentions in ways that are of service to others.”

In my view, no truer words have been spoken and when breaking this idea down, we’re guided to understand the importance of: 1) Recognizing more clearly what we know about ourselves, deep down, 2) dimensionalizing our Life Intentions and legacy we want to leave behind and acting on that, and 3) identifying new ways we want to help and support others.

These three activities have been life-changing for me personally.

Book cover of The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

Kathy Caprino Why did I love this book?

The Four Agreements offers a very simple yet profound way of looking at how we can help ourselves rise above our current thinking and approach to life that often keeps us down, cuts off connection to ourselves and others, and inhibits our growth and happiness.

Of the 4 agreements, I find “Be Impeccable With Your World” the most potent, as it invites us to be extremely judicious in all the words we choose to utter, as well as how we talk to ourselves internally.

The word “impeccable” derives from the Latin word “impeccabilis,” a combination of the prefix in-, meaning “not” and the verb “peccare”, meaning “to sin.”

The author implores us to stop sinning against ourselves and others, and to cease tearing ourselves down and being cruel, harsh, and fiercely judgmental with our words. What a wonderful message!
